Anti-Mail Order Spouse Act
Anti-Mail Order Spouse Act, Republic Act No. 10906, lapsed into law on July 21, 2016 without the signature of the President in accordance with Article VI, Section 27 (1) of the Constitution. It repealed R.A. No. 6955, the 1990 Anti-Mail Order Bride Law, criminalized the practice of matching or offering of Filipinos to foreign nationals for marriage or common law partnership on mail-order basis or through personal introduction, email, or websites on the internet, and increased the penalty from six years and one day to eight years in R.A. No. 6955 to 15 years. The matching of Filipino males, formerly not prohibited, is now proscribed as well. The matching could also be for common law partnership; previously it was only for marriage.
