State universities and colleges (SUCs)

Under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, state universities and colleges (SUCs) refer to public higher education institutions (HEIs) established by national laws which are financed and maintained by the national government and are governed by their respective independent boards of trustees or regents. (Sec. 3(m), R.A. No. 10931) The same definition is used in the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST) Act. (Sec. 4(o), R.A. No. 10687)
