Here’s Samira Gutoc-Tomawis. She was a member of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission and was on her way to further career advancement when Mr. Duterte urged our soldiers to rape Moro women during the Marawi Siege in May 2017. She promptly resigned in protest.
How many of our leaders now, even those who claim themselves to be champions of women’s rights, chose to be silent about the misogynist remarks of the President, for one reason or another, perhaps one of them career or political advancement?
In abnormal times like ours, true leaders are known by the clarity of their principles, by the fact that they are willing to sacrifice their personal gains for the values that they hold to be dear.
We need more Samiras during these times. This is why I am supporting her Senatorial bid.
